Hugo Simberg - exhibition
Exhibition material, 2001

The Hugo Simberg exhibition in the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki was a major event and the museum made an extra effort to create a range of books and products to accompany the usual catalogue.

The several facets of the artist and his works was chosen as a leading motif for a range of products - a number of recognizable characters were distilled from documents of Simberg's life and from his well-known paintings: death, the artist in disguise, the angel and most prominently the character of Halla - Frost. These were used as recognizable silhouttes on paperbags, stationery and packaging - giving a certain loaded meaning to otherwise mundane objects for sale in the museum shop.
